Writ Petition Lawyer in Karachi

Writ petitions under Article 199 against public bodies, tribunals and unlawful orders.

Sindh High Court building in Karachi

In brief

Under Article 199, the High Court can issue directions in the nature of mandamus, certiorari, prohibition, quo warranto and habeas corpus. In simple terms, it can direct an authority to do its legal duty, or strike down an action that lacks lawful authority.

Drafting matters: the petition should set out the facts, the legal defect and why no adequate alternative remedy exists. We prepare it with those points in mind.

Who this is for

Anyone aggrieved by an order or inaction of a public authority, or the decision of a lower tribunal.

How we can assist

  • Mandamus against delay or inaction
  • Certiorari against unlawful orders
  • Prohibition and quo warranto petitions
  • Stay applications
  • Compliance and contempt applications

When clients come to us

  • An authority has not acted on your application for months
  • A tribunal decided a case beyond its jurisdiction
  • A public appointment was made unlawfully
  • You have an order and the department refuses to implement it

How the matter moves

We review the order and confirm the time and remedies available. The petition is filed before the High Court of Sindh. If it is admitted to regular hearing, notices are issued, replies are filed, and the case is heard. If it succeeds, we help ensure compliance with the court's order.

Papers to keep ready

  • The impugned order or notice
  • Applications made to the authority
  • Appeal or review papers, if any
  • Your CNIC or company authority

Questions clients ask

Is there a time limit for a writ?

There is no fixed limitation in the usual way, but unexplained delay (laches) can defeat a petition, so act quickly.

Do I need to exhaust other remedies first?

Usually yes, if an adequate remedy exists. Exceptions exist, such as where the order is without jurisdiction.

What if the department ignores the court's order?

An application for compliance or contempt proceedings may be available.
