Cheque Dishonour Lawyer in Karachi
Section 489-F PPC complaints, defence and summary recovery suits over bounced cheques.

In brief
A dishonoured cheque can lead to two separate paths: a criminal case under section 489-F PPC where it was issued dishonestly to repay a loan or fulfil an obligation, and a civil summary suit under Order XXXVII CPC to recover the money.
We act for payees looking to recover money, and for people accused in such cases. Often it is a commercial or security cheque dispute, and the underlying transaction becomes the key point.
People holding a bounced cheque, and those accused over a cheque they issued.
How we can assist
- Legal notices over dishonoured cheques
- FIR and 489-F PPC proceedings
- Summary recovery suits
- Bail and trial defence
- Settlement and compromise
When clients come to us
- A buyer's cheque has bounced
- You gave a security cheque and it has been misused
- An FIR has been registered over a cheque
- You want your money, not just a criminal case
How the matter moves
The cheque is presented and the bank issues a dishonour memo. A notice is sent, and a complaint or civil suit is filed. In a criminal case, the matter proceeds through investigation and trial, while in a civil suit, the defendant must first seek leave to defend.
Papers to keep ready
- Original cheque
- Bank return memo
- Agreement or proof of the underlying debt
- Notices or messages between the parties
Questions clients ask
Is a bounced cheque always a crime?
No. The law looks at dishonest intent and the obligation behind the cheque. Other factors can also affect the outcome.
Should I go criminal or civil?
It depends on what you want and on the facts. Often a civil suit is the route to actually recovering money, and we advise on using both.
Can it be settled?
Yes, and settlement is common. Any terms should be properly recorded.
